Digital Micrometer How to Use
Prepare the Micrometer:Ensure the micrometer is clean, especially the anvil and spindle faces. Wipe them with a clean cloth or tissue to remove any dust or debris. Check the zero setting by closing the spindle and anvil gently. The display should read zero. If it doesn’t, you can reset it to zero using the reset button. Measure the Object:Place the object to be measured between the spindle and the anvil. Turn the ratchet knob to close the spindle towards the object. Use the ratchet for the final tightening to ensure consistent pressure and avoid over-tightening, which could distort the reading. Once the spindle touches the object and you feel resistance, stop tightening. Read the Measurement:The measurement will display on the digital screen in either millimeters or inches, depending on the setting. If needed, use the inch/mm button to switch between units. Lock the Reading:If you need to record the reading, use the locking screw to lock the spindle in place. This will prevent the spindle from moving while you note the measurement. Remove the Object:After taking the reading, unlock the spindle and remove the object carefully. Turn Off the Micrometer:Most digital micrometers will automatically turn off after a period of inactivity, but you can manually turn it off to save battery.
